Boy, 12, home after arm is reattachedPITTSBURGH — A boy has returned home less than three weeks after doctors reattached his arm after it was severed by a tractor mechanism.Seth Apel said, “It feels good to be home and not having nurses waking you up every two hours.Seth was helping unload firewood using a tractor’s belt-driven mechanism when his arm got severed just below the shoulder on Nov. 7 outside his home in Knox, Clarion County.Paramedics packed the arm in ice and doctors at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC spent eight hours reattaching it that day.The boy was home Friday.His mother, Angela Apel, says doctors aren’t sure whether he will regain full use of his arm, but says “God will give him whatever he needs and, whatever it is, we will be grateful.”
Woman, 28, dies after being stabbedPITTSBURGH — Police say a woman found stabbed and bleeding outside a closed pizzeria has died.The Allegheny County medical examiner says the victim is 28-year-old Margaret Recasens.Police say officers and paramedics were called to the scene about 2:15 a.m. Saturday for a report of a woman lying on the sidewalk and bleeding.Police first reported the woman had been shot, but later determined she had been stabbed. She was found near Anthony’s Pizza in Carrick, a neighborhood known for drug activity.She was taken to UPMC Mercy hospital and pronounced dead.An autopsy was scheduled later Saturday.Police say a man was seen walking away from the area, but stopped short of naming him or saying whether they’ve charged a suspect.
