3 SRU students arrested in robbery of other SRU student

SLIPPERY ROCK TWP — State police arrested three Slippery Rock University students Thursday night after they allegedly robbed another student at gunpoint in his off-campus apartment that afternoon.

This is the second gun-related incident at The Grove apartment complex this week.

Julian Durden, 21, of Pittsburgh and Calvert Anderson, 23, of Johnstown were arrested at 6 p.m. on robbery, burglary, theft and conspiracy charges, according to a news release.

Robert Brown, 22, of Pittsburgh was arrested about 11 p.m. on the same charges.

About 2 p.m. several black males allegedly broke into a first-floor apartment in building 11 at The Grove apartments at 145 Harmony Road, Sgt. Rachel Graham said Thursday.

The resident Kessel Weber, 21, and a friend were held at gunpoint while the men allegedly stole cash, a cell phone and other items from the apartment.

Weber knew the men who robbed him and identified Durden and Anderson, the release said.

Police got a search warrant for the three suspects’ apartment in the Heights apartment complex on Grove City Road in the township and found marijuana and drug paraphernalia there. Several handguns also were found.

All three suspects were taken to the Butler County Prison.

It is unknown if the incident Thursday has any connection to an attempted homicide that occurred Sunday at the entrance to The Grove apartments, Graham said.

In that case, three black men got out of a vehicle at 12:30 a.m. Sunday and allegedly fired shots at a gray Pontiac Grand Prix entering the complex.

No arrests have been made in that case.

The property manager at The Grove deferred comments on the incident to a representative of Campus Crest, the company that owns the complex.
