BC3 hoop teams defeated at GarrettThe Butler County Community College men’s and women’s basketball teams were both defeated twice at the Garrett (Md.) Community College Tournament over the weekend.Butler graduate Julia Baxter had 29 points and 13 rebounds, 28 points and 21 boards in losses to Garrett CC and Allegany (Md.) CC. BC3’s women are 1-2.Knoch grad Austin Miller had 21 points and six assists in a 106-66 loss to Garrett CC. Markel Peace had 27 points in a 106-59 loss to Allegany for the BC3 men (0-3).
Freeport volleyball falls in PIAA playThe Freeport volleyball season came to a sudden end in a 3-0 loss to Somerset in the PIAA Class AA quarterfinals Saturday.District 6 champion Somerset (22-0), which won the first state playoff game in school history Tuesday, downed the Yellowjackets 25-22, 25-18, 25-15 at Greensburg Salem High School.The Yellowjackets (21-2), who won the WPIAL title for the third time in five years, had trouble with Golden Eagle junior hitters Madison Reeping and Meghan VanLenten, who each ended up with 14 kills.
