Winners listed from Nov. 3 election

The bulk of the offices up for election Nov. 3 went to candidates listed on the ballot.

However, some of the offices had no one on the ballot or not enough candidates for the number of openings on boards of supervisors or borough councils. These offices will be filled by those who got write-in votes.

These winners will have to respond to the county Bureau of Elections that they will accept the office.

Still others got write-in votes that resulted in ties. The tie votes will be broken at noon Friday in a lottery.

Noteworthy outcomesSome interesting outcomes occurred in the write-in part of the election:In Cherry Valley borough, two seats on borough council went to the father-son combination of Michael Bagdes-Canning and his son, Timothy.Michael Bagdes-Canning, who lost in his Green Party bid for county commissioner, also was on the ballot for the council seat. His son already has served on the board as a write-in winner and was returned to the board by write-in this year.Michael Bagdes-Canning said because the borough is so small — with only 41 registered voters — it can be hard to get the required 10 signatures to appear on the ballot.“That's why he was a write-in,” Bagdes-Canning said of his son.He said he has enjoyed serving on the council with his 31-year-old son, saying it is good to have younger people involved in local politics. He said disagreements between council members, including with his son, are really rare.“We really haven't had any disagreements about anything,” he said.In Eau Claire borough, three members with the same last name won council seats as write-in candidates. They are Dennis, Mechelle and Stephen Sloan. They could not be reached for comment. Jack Buzard won the fourth seat as the lone name on the ballot. In Connoquenessing borough, Steve Miller thought he had won a seat on the council when he finished second in the voting for the second seat up for election. However, David Hilliard won that seat by getting more write-in votes than the 61 votes Miller got by being on the ballot.

Tie votesThe voting also produced some ties that will be broken in a lottery set for noon Friday. The ties include council seats in Seven Fields, Fairview and Bruin. In Seven Fields, the tie is between Joseph A. Scalamogna and Dawn Servello, who both were on the ballot. The winner will take the second seat that was up for election. In Fairview, a fourth seat on council had no candidate on the ballot. It will go to either Nichole Saylor or Jeff Shumaker, who tied with write-in votes. In Bruin, a third seat will go to Debora Easley, Josh Price or Kevin Smith who tied with write-in votes.
