Man, asleep at home in city, attacked by 2 men
Two men allegedly entered a city home Wednesday night and attacked a man while he was sleeping.
Police said Charles E. Portis, 56, and an unknown man allegedly went to the 320 N. Monroe St. home of Tyler Crawford about 11:45 p.m. and attacked him shortly after he fell asleep, according to court documents.
Crawford told police he woke up to Portis and the other man punching him. Police said Portis and the other suspect dragged Crawford out of the home and onto the sidewalk.
Police said Crawford had cuts and scratches on his right leg, arm and the side of his face. He also was bleeding from the lip.
Crawford’s father and sister, who were in the home, told police that Crawford had laid down for bed just before they heard him yelling outside.
Portis on Friday was charged with a felony count of burglary — overnight accommodation with a person present because he allegedly entered the home with the intention of assaulting Crawford, according to documents. He also was charged with simple assault.
He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $25,000 bail.
The police said nothing else about the other suspect.
