Early morning crash injures young driver
JEFFERSON TWP — A young woman was flown by medical helicopter to a hospital early this morning following a one vehicle crash on Freeport Road.
The accident occurred about 2:45 a.m. in the 500 block of the road, according to 911 reports.
Saxonburg Fire Chief Chris Ballina said the woman’s car struck a utility poll and rolled over several times before coming to a rest on its driver’s side.
“We had to cut the roof and pull the steering wheel off her,” Ballina said. “It was pinned down on her.”
Ballina said the woman had injuries to her head and arm but was conscious.
He said she was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital due to the severity of the damage to the vehicle.
“You have to worry about internal injuries,” he said.
Ballina did not know the woman’s age but said she was possibly in her teens.
Emergency crews were on the scene until about 4 a.m.
