ROCHESTER — A Western Pennsylvania man famous for appearing on the Howard Stern Show has died in a fire that began when he fell asleep while cooking.

Neighbors tell the Beaver County newspaper, which first reported the death, that Hillbilly Jack Rushman was a “local celebrity” because of Stern’s show. Rushman was a member of the “wack pack” — a group of outrageous personalities who called or appeared on Stern’s show.

Beaver County Coroner Teri Tatalovich-Rossi says the 55-year-old died of thermal and inhalation injuries from the fire, which neighbors reported shortly before 6 p.m. Saturday.

His brother, Jonas Rushman, of Ambridge, tells The Associated Press that his brother began cooking something on the stove then fell asleep in a chair.

Neighbor Chad Scobie says Rushman was a “funny and interesting” guy.
