[naviga:h3]Committee ponders action on Kane[/naviga:h3]

HARRISBURG — A Pennsylvania Senate committee set up to consider whether to take action against Attorney General Kathleen Kane is preparing to hold its first meeting, but she won’t be there.

The Special Committee on Senate Address will meet this afternoon in the Capitol to hear from county prosecutors about issues that involve referrals to Kane’s office and other matters.

The Senate unanimously established the panel late last month, giving it a month to produce a report.

It’s charged with considering whether to recommend Kane’s removal under the state constitution.

Kane’s law license is under temporary, indefinite suspension as she fights perjury and other charges for allegedly leaking secret grand jury material.

She argues she can only be removed through an impeachment process that would have to start in the House.

[naviga:h3]Battery recycling company burns[/naviga:h3]

ELLWOOD CITY — Authorities said fire crews were called to a blaze at a battery and hazardous waste recycling plant.

Lawrence County emergency officials said the fire at the Inmetco plant in Ellwood City was reported at about 9 a.m. Sunday and under control less than two hours later. Crews continued to douse hot spots in the afternoon.

The Ellwood City fire chief said that four firefighters were treated for chemical burns to their hands; two returned to the fire scene and the other two remained at the hospital but were said to be not seriously injured.
