Burglary call leads to arrests for 2 in Lyndora
BUTLER TWP — A burglary-in-progress call before dawn Thursday ended with a Lyndora couple jailed on felony and other charges — but not burglary.
Officers were sent to a home on Whitestown Road about 5 a.m. after the resident reported hearing two people outside trying to break into the basement door.
Police quickly found the suspects — Steven S. Defelice Jr., 31, and Alexandra M. Reeher, 27, according to court documents.
Defelice was lying in the gravel alley behind the Lyndora Bakery. His girlfriend, Reeher, was hiding behind the Lyndora Hotel.
Police said Defelice, who appeared to be impaired by alcohol or drugs, insisted that he lived at the house where he had tried to kick in the basement door, which was broken in the suspected crime.
Both defendants were handcuffed and taken to the police station. But at some point, documents said, Reeher managed to slip out of one of the cuffs and tried to fight with officers.
Police said she also spit on one of the officers.
Defelice was arraigned on a felony charge of trespass, misdemeanor charges of loitering and prowling at night and criminal mischief, and summary charges of disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.
Reeher was arraigned on a felony charge of aggravated harassment by a prisoner, a misdemeanor charge of loitering and prowling at night, and a summary charge of disorderly conduct.
Following arraignment, Reeher and Defelice were placed in the Butler County Prison on $25,000 and $15,000 bail, respectively.
