Two new members were elected to Butler City Council Tuesday.

Republican Michael Walter and Democrat Corey Roche were elected to fill the two vacant seats on the five-member council, which includes the mayor position.

Walter and Roche were the only candidates seeking election.

Walter got 1,044 votes while Roche received 1,009, according to unofficial election results. There were 43 write-in votes.

They will replace council members Bill May and Cheri Readie, who both did not seek re-election.

Roche had previously sought a vacant council seat in 2014 after former councilwoman Lisa Guard resigned.

The position of city treasurer is still undetermined. There were no candidates on the ballot, but 102 write-in votes were cast.
