Omnicell will buy Cranberry-based firmCRANBERRY TWP — Omnicell, a provider of medication and supply management solutions to health care systems, announced Thursday it has entered into an agreement to buy Aesynt, a medication management firm based in Cranberry Township.The deal is valued at $217 million.The combined company would support about 4,000 acute care facilities worldwide, have annual revenues of more than $650 million and have about 2,200 employees.

TransCanada wants to pause reviewTORONTO — TransCanada, the company behind the controversial Keystone XL pipeline from Canada to the U.S Gulf Coast, has asked the U.S. State Department to pause its review of the project. The move comes as Barack Obama increasingly appears likely to reject the pipeline permit application before leaving office in January 2017.TransCanada said Monday it had sent a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry requesting the State Department suspend its review of the application.The pipeline company said such a suspension would be appropriate while it works with Nebraska authorities to secure approval of its preferred route through the state that is facing legal challenges in state courts. TransCanada anticipated it would take seven to 12 months to get route approval from Nebraska authorities.

Automatic braking added to ratingsWASHINGTON — The government is adding automatic braking to its five-star safety rating system designed to help consumers identify the most important safety technologies to look for in new cars.The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said automatic braking will be added to the ratings beginning with 2018 model cars.The agency announced in September it had reached voluntary agreements with 10 automakers to include the technology as standard in new cars, but offered no timeline.
