Steven W. Thomas, “The Handyman"

Steven W. Thomas, “The Handyman"

Steven W. Thomas, “The Handyman,” of Butler, passed away Wednesday surrounded by his loving sisters, Cyndi and Lynn, after a brief battle with cancer.

Steve was born Sept. 24, 1959, the son of Alice Jean and Robert N. Henry, who preceded him in death.

Steve graduated from Slippery Rock High School in 1979 and then attended the Johnstown School of Trades. He worked for McDonald's in Butler for over 22 years.

Steve was well known and liked and was considered “The Handyman” by many, many people in the Butler community. Anyone who really knew Steve knew that he was a wise and gentle soul and that he was a hard worker, a good talker. He just loved to carry on a conversation, and he loved a good meal.

Steve would do anything for anyone who asked and the majority of the time he did not ask for any compensation. He always said that he did the work because it just needed to be done.

Steve is survived by his loving sisters, Lynn (Jody) Slaven of Polk, Pa., and Cyndi (Wayne) Lumley of Volant, Pa.; his brothers Alan (Diane) Thomas and Michael Thomas, both from Salem, W.Va.

Steve is also survived by his nephews, Robert and Garry Rankin and Jason Thomas; his nieces, Mandy Rankin, Sarrah Thomas, Alicia Huntley and Sonya Hapeman; and great-nephews, Austin Wagner and Karter Huntley.

Steve also is survived by his special friends, Tim and Laura, Eric, Martha, Susan, Melissa and Josh; and many numerous other friends.
