Rain storms cause problems in countyLingering storms caused some problems in Butler County Wednesday evening.Traffic was delayed on Route 422 at about 7:30 p.m. due to fallen power lines along the westbound lanes near the East Jefferson Street exit, according to 911 reports. Volunteer firefighters from Butler Township responded to the scene for traffic control.Reports of fallen wires and trees also were reported in Brady and Clay townships, as well as Butler and Bruin.Sunset Drive in Center Township had some flooding due to the rain, according to reports.Holy Sepulcher Church on East Cruikshank Road in Middlesex Township also asked for help from volunteer firefighters due to flooding in its control room at about 10 p.m.
Butler symphony gets $1,000 grantThe Butler County Symphony Orchestra was awarded a $1,000 grant from the Butler Walmart Supercenter at Butler Commons.Joe Kecskemethy, president of the symphony, said he is thankful for the gift.“We are fortunate to live in an area where there is a strong emphasis on the arts,” he said in a statement.“Like most arts organizations, our ticket prices only cover about 30 percent of our expenses. We are very thankful to those individuals, businesses and corporations who have shown their financial support for more than 66 years so that we can continue to share our music.”He said Walmart has picked the symphony for a community grant for two consecutive years.
