Lowry S. “Butch” Leonberg

Lowry S. “Butch” Leonberg, 77, of Mars passed away Tuesday evening at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Born March 15, 1938, in Mars, he was the son of the late Elmer and Frances Davidson Leonberg.

Butch had been the head of maintenance for Penn Mar Plaza for 25 years. He also was a self-employed auto mechanic for many years.

A life member of the Mars Volunteer Fire Company, now Adams Area Fire District, he had served two decades as assistant chief and was an EMT.

He was a member of the Mars United Presbyterian Church and was an avid hunter.

Butch had served as an airman second class with the Pennsylvania Air National Guard with the 171st Consolidated Aircraft Maintenance Squadron and was a social member of the Mars VFW.

He also belonged to the John E. Mair Lodge 729 F&AM.

Surviving are his wife, Alice Keefer Leonberg, who he married Jan. 23, 1959; his children, Jeffrey Leonberg of Mars, Brian Leonberg of Seymour, Tenn., and LeaAnn Chairizio and her husband, Frank, of West Homestead; his grandchildren, Erica, Amber, Mitchell, Nate and Ben; his sisters, Carol Stanford and her husband, Edward, of Roanoke, W.Va., Patricia Garvin and her husband, Gerald, of Chander, Ariz., and Lois Nichols and her husband, Gordon, of Sedona, Ariz.; his brothers, Chuck Leonberg of Bakersfield, Calif., and Rick Leonberg of Middlesex Township; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

LEONBERG — Friends of Lowry S. Leonberg, who died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2015, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars.Members of the John E. Mair Lodge 729 F&AM will conduct a Masonic Service at 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Mars United Presbyterian Church, 232 Crowe Ave., Mars, with the Rev. Nathan Esser, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at the Mars Cemetery, Adams Township.Memorials may be made to the Mars United Presbyterian Church, P.O.
