Bob Meyer, 61, of Conneaut Lake and Valley Brook Country Club carded a 3 under par 68 Tuesday to win the Tri-State PGA Tour Championship at South Hills Country Club.

Meyer finished a stroke ahead of John Aber, Denny Dolci, Devin Gee and Kevin Shields. John Aubrey of Aubrey's Dubbs Dred tied for sixth with an even par 71.

Rob McClellan of Butler Country Club finished 4 over par while Saxonburg's Joe Boros of Treesdale Golf and Country Club was 6 over.

The TSPGA's next event is the Butler Country Club Fall Classic, slated Monday at BCC.

The Butler County Community College beat the University of Pittsburgh Titusville 25-5, 25-6, 25-6.Baylee Verner led the Pioneers (12-4, 4-0) with eight kills and seven aces. Lexie Graham also recorded 22 assists and Rachel Suddoth had six digs for BC3.

BALTIMORE — The Toronto Blue Jays yelled, hugged and jumped for joy around the mound after clinching their first AL East title in 22 years.With their 15-2 rout of Baltimore in the first game of a doubleheader Wednesday, the Blue Jays brought an appropriate conclusion to their unstoppable, two-month run.The Orioles won the nightcap 8-1, getting two home runs from Chris Davis. Kevin Gausman (4-7) had a career-high 10 strikeouts over eight innings against a lineup consisting entirely of backups.

SAN FRANCISCO — A federal appeals court agreed Wednesday that the NCAA's use of college athletes' names, images and likenesses in video games and TV broadcasts violated antitrust laws but struck down a plan to allow schools to pay players up to $5,000.The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said the NCAA could not stop schools from providing full scholarships to student athletes but vacated a proposal for deferred cash payments.A statement from NCAA President Mark Emmert said the organization agrees with the court that “allowing students to be paid cash compensation of up to $5,000 per year was erroneous.”The NCAA had appealed U.S. District Judge Claudia Wilken's 2014 decision to allow players in the top division of college football and in Division I men's basketball to be paid. The money would have been put in a trust fund and given to them when they left school.

CATON, N.Y. — A former minor league hockey player has been charged with killing his wife inside their upstate New York home.The Steuben County sheriff's office says deputies and state troopers responded to Thomas Clayton's home in Caton, near the Pennsylvania border, after he called 911 early Tuesday and said he found his wife dead.Officials say 35-year-old Kelley Clayton was discovered on the floor with severe facial trauma.The couple's two young children were home.
