Buffalo Twp.girl does N.Y. runway show
BUFFALO TWP — Brooklyn Geibel has modeled for several online clothing companies, appeared in commercials, and this weekend, debuts in her first New York City runway show.
Brooklyn is also a 6-year-old first grader at South Butler Primary School.
“When we started getting catalogs in the mail, she said she wanted to be in them,” said Amy Geibel, Brooklyn's mother, at their secluded Buffalo Township home.
This summer has been a whirlwind for the Geibel family. Brooklyn began her modeling career in May, when she attended East Coast Starz, a children's modeling program based in New Jersey.
“I thought that would be a good way to see if that was something she wanted to pursue,” Geibel said.
By June, Brooklyn began work for online clothing retailers, including Zulily, Olive Juice and KidCuteture.
She's also done Pittsburgh area work, modeling upcycled skirts for Depression Couture on Etsy, and she's has done a photo shoot and commercial for Glossy Chick in New York City.
On Saturday and Sunday, she'll be wearing clothing designed by French children's clothing company Lili Gaufrette. The Best of France event Brooklyn will be a part of will take place in Times Square. The weekend-long event includes French fashion, beauty, tourism and culture.
Brooklyn will be modeling a blue shirt with pink embellishments, a gold metallic sweater dress, a faux fur coat with a hood and black jeggings and twirly skirts.
Coincidentally enough, Lili Gaufrette was one of the first brands she wore as a baby.
“We had her first baby picture taken in that brand,” Geibel said. “It's funny how all that works out.”
A total of 30 children from across the country were selected to model outfits from seven designers. One of Brooklyn's local friends, 6-year-old Sophia Gerardi of Apollo, will also be modeling in the Best of France show.
But Brooklyn is very excited about her trip to New York City for another reason: Her team had won a talent competition while at East Coast Starz, so she and many of her friends will be riding through the city in a pink limousine.
“She gets to spend the day in New York and gets totally pampered,” Geibel said.
Brooklyn's other favorite experiences during previous visits to New York City? Visiting American Girl doll stores and riding the Ferris wheel at the Toys “R” Us store.
Geibel recently signed her daughter with Docherty Model and Talent Agency of Pittsburgh. Brooklyn's modeling career will be limited to the weekends now because of school and other activities, such as cheerleading and gymnastics.
It's also been a new and fun experience for Geibel, who has met many friends through her daughter's photo shoots and casting.
“It's been pretty exciting,” she said. “We've made so many new friends to experience it all together.”
Brooklyn's father, Brad, and her little brother, 3-year-old Hudson, have also been supportive of her new activity.
Most of all though, when she's been away, Brooklyn misses her dog, a 9-month-old Goldendoodle named Murphy.
