MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Vikings have parted ways with longtime mascot Ragnar the Viking.The Vikings said Monday their contract with Joe Juranitch, the man who played Ragnar, expired during the offseason. The team says it has had “multiple conversations” with Juranitch, but has not been able to reach an agreement on his role with the Vikings.Fans noted Ragnar was not at Sunday's home opener against Detroit. Wearing a horned helmet and dressed in furs, the burly, bearded Ragnar would roar onto the field on a purple motorcycle.
ST. LOUIS — Cardinals All-Star catcher Yadier Molina has a partially torn ligament in his left thumb, and St. Louis hopes he might return during the regular season.Molina will be re-evaluated late this week or early next week.St. Louis also cleared right-hander Adam Wainwright for baseball activities after he made a rapid recovery from a torn left Achilles, an injury sustained April 25. The two-time 20-game winner could help in the bullpen during the postseason.
DENVER — The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed infielder Jung Ho Kang on the 60-day disabled list and selected the contract of outfielder Keon Broxton from Triple-A Indianapolis.Broxton hit .256 with seven home runs and 42 RBIs in 88 games with Indianapolis. He began the season in Double-A Altoona where he hit .302 with three home runs in 45 games.
