CABOT — Kim Young of Sarver has been promoted to corporate chief financial officer and Paul Brand of Glenshaw has been named executive vice president at Concordia Lutheran Ministries, according to Keith Frndak, president and CEO.
Young, an alumna of Robert Morris University, has worked at Concordia as corporate controller since 1997.
Before that she worked at Allegheny Valley Hospital and at Shadyside Hospital.
In her new role, she will have oversight for all financial reporting, budgeting and other financial matters. Young also will be involved in corporate planning.
Brand, also a graduate of RMU, has been leading the accounting and finance departments for the entire 27 years he has been with Concordia. In 1998, he was appointed to the newly-created CFO position.
In his new role, Brand will focus on organization growth and acquisitions as well as executive level corporate projects.
Concordia has 22 villas, 532 retirement living apartments, 978 personal care and 380 skilled nursing for a total of 1,912 units.
Concordia Lutheran Ministries includes Concordia Visiting Nurses, Concordia Medical Equipment and Good Samaritan Hospice.
Miracle-Ear of Butler, a member of the national franchise, partnered with the Miracle-Ear Foundation to provide a Butler man the gift of sound.Thomas Neely had trouble hearing.Miracle-Ear hearing specialist Sara Manfredi tested Thomas and confirmed his need for hearing aids but determined that the cost was out of his reach. She suggested that Thomas apply for assistance from the foundation.Thomas was approved and fitted with donated hearing aids as well as lifetime after care.In partnership with local franchisee Julie Beall-McKelvey and her staff, the Miracle-Ear Foundation, a Minneapolis-based nonprofit organization, supports underserved adults and children across the country with their hearing health care needs.
HARRISVILLE — Northern Butler County has a new firearms dealer. National Armory opened Sept. 1.The store at 429 S. Main St. is in the same building that was home to Gun World for more than 20 years.The store sells hand guns, rifles, shotguns, ammunition and other supplies. It also offers to buy or trade-in firearms.The interior of the store has been redecorated from when Gun World was there, manager Bill Schiff said.“It's had a great reaction from the local people,” Schiff said.The store has two employees and plans to hire a couple more, he said.Based in Ohio, National Armory also has four locations in Ohio and one in Moon Township, Allegheny County.
OAKLAND TWP — Employees at the Pennsylvania American Water facility on Oneida Valley Road have been honored with the Directors Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Partnership for Safe Water program.Award recipients demonstrate an outstanding commitment to delivering superior quality drinking water to customers, according to a news release by the water company.The release said utilities that subscribe to the partnership program are dedicated to producing high-quality water, even beyond regulatory requirements.Executives with Pennsylvania American Water, Butler Mayor Tom Donaldson and Butler Township Manager Ed Kirkwood presented the employees with a plaque Wednesday.
FREEPORT — A metals industry company is celebrating 30 years in business.Jim Boyle, the founder and president of Boyle Inc., said his company is on the cutting edge of the industry.The company specializes in custom, precision carbide and steel components for high-volume, metal-stamping dies. It also offers grinding, machining and milling services worldwide.“I'd like to thank our employees, customers, vendors and community for all the successful years,” Boyle said. “Our workmanship is first rate; our employees are some of the best in the world. I could not be prouder of them and what we have built together.”The company employs 13 people. Boyle's son, Jim, also works there.Boyle Inc., which is certified ISO 9001:2008, supplies parts to customers in the electrical connectors, contacts, laminations, consumer goods, computers and the automotive industries.
Butler Memorial Hospital has been designated a Lung Cancer Screening Center by the American College of Radiology.The designation is a voluntary program that recognizes facilities that have committed to practice safe, effective diagnostic care for people at the highest risk for lung cancer.To get this distinction, facilities must be accredited by the ACR in computed tomography in the chest module, as well as undergo an assessment of its lung cancer screening protocol and infrastructure. Also required are procedures for follow-up patient care, such as counseling and stop-smoking programs.Lung cancer is considered to be the leading cancer killer in the U.S.
• Hope Pifer, assistant vice president, senior financial analyst at Mars National Bank, joined the Emerging Leaders Peer Group of the Pennsylvania Bankers Association. The group identifies, trains and supports emerging leaders in the financial services industry. Pifer will serve with the group for three years.
