HARRISBURG — The state Senate is returning to Harrisburg for the first time in two months as majority Republicans look to start advancing a short-term spending package to break a budget stalemate.

The Senate’s session today was scheduled to include procedural votes on the spending package.

Republicans say the package would release about $11 billion, or four months of money retroactive to July 1, plus billions more in federal money that’s being held up.

However, Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf is signaling that he will not sign a stopgap spending plan unless he has a general budget agreement with lawmakers and it would take some time to finish the details.
