Teen accused of threat
Butler police Monday arrested a city teenager on charges he pointed a handgun at his girlfriend’s mother and threatened to kill her.
Noah S. Burnside, 18, is accused of aiming the gun at Jessica Martin outside her home in the 400 block of North Chestnut Street about noon Sunday. No one was injured.
Burnside is being held in the Butler County Prison on $75,000 bail. He faces felony assault and weapons charges.
Police were called to Martin’s house after she said the defendant showed up there with a gun, according to court documents.
The woman told officers that she was in her home when she heard tapping on the window.
“She looked outside and viewed Burnside standing there pointing a revolver type handgun at her,” a police affidavit said,
Martin recognized the suspect because he is her daughter’s boyfriend.
When she asked where her daughter was, police said, Burnside replied, “Why would she come to attend her mother’s death?”
A friend of Martin’s was also there and heard the defendant ask the same question.
Martin told police that while her friend called 911, she went outside to confront Burnside, who got into the passenger side of a nearby van driven by an unidentified older man.
The van was parked next to the woman’s house on Federal Street. Moments after the van started to back up, documents said, the suspect got out.
Burnside “pointed the gun at (Martin’s) face and continued to threaten to kill her,” according to the affidavit.
The defendant eventually got back into the van, which drove away.
Officers later went to Burnside’s home but he was not there. They continued looking for him until he was arrested the following day.
He was arraigned shortly before 4 p.m. Monday on felony charges of aggravated assault, illegal possession of a fireman and carrying a firearm without a permit.
He also is charged with terroristic threats and simple assault.
