CONNOQUENESSING TWP — Campers at the Buttercup Woodlands Campground staged their second annual community fundraiser Sept. 5.

Jacob Hagofsky, campground manager, said the fundraiser brought in $2,900 for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society's Western Pennsylvania Chapter. He said the total is still climbing as they have more time to count the money.

It began with a spaghetti dinner, followed by a fundraiser with a necklace. Hagofsky said the campground contributed the dinner and other items throughout the day.

At least 30 adults and children joined in a kickball game while 30 others parked their golf carts and watched. Hagofsky said it was his own spin on the usual walking fundraisers.

“That was something still involving the activity, but still attracted the children and adults.”

Hagofsky said he found that six campers have multiple sclerosis.

“It's something that hits home,” he said. “Everybody in our campground cares about what we're doing.

Last year, the campers did the ice bucket challenge, which spurred the decision to continue the event yearly and focus more on the fundraiser aspect.

Hagofsky said, “It makes me feel honored. My wheels are already turning as to what we're going to do next year.”

SUMMIT TWP — The Community Health Clinic of Butler County has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the Community Care Foundation.The grant will help the clinic provide dental services.Jean Purvis, secretary of the clinic's board, said the clinic has received this grant for the past several years. She said that the clinic provides basic dental care, such as cleanings, extractions and fillings.Purvis said the dental services are heavily used.The clinic provides medical and dental services to uninsured adults who earn too much money to qualify for Medicaid but cannot afford private insurance or receive insurance through the Affordable Care Act.
