$1.7M project is under way

CRANBERRY TWP — The North Boundary Park Waterpark has closed for the season, but will show a number of changes when it reopens in May.

The water park is undergoing a $1.7 million renovation which includes a new climbing wall, dump bucket, new pool surface, a larger and separate baby pool and more, said David Hutner, the township's recreation program manager.

“We are excited with a capital E,” he said.

Hutner said the pool has not been renovated since it opened in 1997.

The biggest change to is the separation of the kiddie pool from the main pool, he said. Residents said in a survey that they wanted two distinct pools, which will include a new filtration system.

Some other new features are a red and green light and timer on the water slide, in-pool benches and additional lap lanes.

Hutner said another change to the facility is that there will be multiple filtration systems.

This will allow the pool to remain open if one area gets contaminated.

Hutner said the game plan is to have all the outdoor demolition and construction done by the end of October and have the park operational by the beginning of May to get the staff trained on the new equipment by the parks opening on May 28, 2016.

The township staff, community members and the support of the supervisors is what made this renovation possible, he said.
