Friday — Police charged an employee with stealing $700 in merchandise from the Walmart at Butler Commons. The suspect, Jacob M. Rearick Jr., 19, of Ford City, Armstrong County, was caught allegedly taking the items last week.

Rearick is charged with a misdemeanor count of retail theft.

Friday — Shane W. Beachem, 39, of New Castle was charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia after suffering an apparent drug overdose at the Butler Memorial Hospital parking lot. Police found Beachem with a used hypodermic needle.

6:52 p.m. Tuesday — Heidi Sue Hile, 35, of Karns City was caught allegedly shoplifting merchandise valued at $158 at the Butler Commons’ Walmart. Hile, who has one prior shoplifting arrest, is charged with misdemeanor retail theft.

Friday — A would-be burglar tried to break into a home in the 1600 block of Oneida Valley Road in Concord Township. The suspect removed an air conditioner from a rear window at the home. No entry was made but the air conditioner sustained damage when it was dropped during the alleged crime that occurred between 3 and 11 p.m.

Aug. 5 — Aluminum wheels, transmission coolers and a battery were taken from scrap cars in a field at a home in the 2600 block of Old Route 422 in Clearfield Township. The theft happened between July 30 and Aug. 5. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-284-8100.

9:05 p.m. July 23 — James M. Franklin, 42, of Butler was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance on Interstate 79 in Jackson Township. Police found Franklin with a small mount of suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Saturday — A vandal damaged two mailboxes on Huey Road in Toby Township. Both mailboxes were torn off their posts. The vandalism happened between 10 p.m. Friday and 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 814-226-1710.

4:30 a.m. Friday — Cathy J. Ealey, 42, of Karns City lost control of her car and struck a utility pole and tree along Doc Walker Road about one-half mile from Muhl Lane in Perry Township, Clarion County. She fled the crash.

Ealey was later cited for failing to immediately notify police of an accident and driving at an unsafe speed.

4:05 a.m. Sunday — A 42-year-old Harrisville man allegedly used a vehicle to assault a woman during a domestic dispute on Byers Road in Irwin Township. A police news release did not identify the man or woman, who also is 42 of Harrisville.

The suspect faces aggravated assault charges.

Friday — A thief stole a key from a riding lawn mower at a woman’s home in the 400 block of Log Cemetery Road in Irwin Township. The theft happened between 7:30 and 8 p.m.

Saturday — Someone cut a window screen in the back of a man’s house on Route 68 in Bradys Bend Township. The vandalism happened between 6 p.m. Friday and 6 p.m. Saturday. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-543-2011.

[naviga:h3]State Police, Mercer[/naviga:h3]

11 p.m. Thursday — Katherine T. Cook, no age given, of Columbia, Md., was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after her car struck a guardrail on Courtney Mill Road near Glacial Till Road in Liberty Township, Mercer County.

Aug. 6 — A Liberty Township man made an online purchase through eBay but never received his merchandise. Police are investigating the suspected theft.

11:30 p.m. Wednesday — A car driven by Admire B. Carter, 23, of Beaver Falls, Beaver County, rear-ended a pickup truck on Router 422 at Copper Road in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County. Police cited Carter for driving at an unsafe speed. Richard L. Henry, 26, of Enon Valley was the other driver.
