Albert Michael Solensky, 82, of Butler passed away Thursday evening at VNA Inpatient Hospice.

Born in Canonsburg, Pa., on Aug. 27, 1932, he was the son of the late Steven and Anna Kilian Solensky.

Al was a member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church and a devout Catholic.

He was a social worker with the Veterans Administration for 30 years.

A Korean War veteran, Al served in the U.S. Army.

He was an amazing father with a generous soul.

Al was a member of the Slovak Club, Knights of Columbus Third Degree, the American Legion Post 117, D.A.V., and the Blue Army. He volunteered at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was an avid golfer.

Al is survived by three sons, David Solensky and his wife, Jean, of Pace, Fla., Gregory Solensky of Golden, Colo., and Mark Solensky and his wife, Kimberly, of Butler; and two daughters, Mary Beth Gunderson and her husband, Michael, of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Elaine Martinez and her husband Louis of Brunswick, Ga.

In addition, he is survived by eight grandchildren, Darron, Paula, Brooke, Zac, Jackie, Bryan, Rebecca and Nicole.

Al is also survived by seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Solensky and his wife, Barbara, and Robert Solensky and his wife, Wilma, both of Canonsburg, Pa.; and one sister, Mary Alice Cimino and her husband, Pete, of Houston, Pa.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Mae Solensky.

SOLENSKY — Friends of Albert Michael Solensky, who died Thursday, June 25, 2015, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the Martin Funeral Home, 429 Center Ave., Butler.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 127 Franklin St., Butler. Burial will take place in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.Military honors will be accorded at St. Peter Church immediately following Mass by the VFW Post 249 of Butler and the American Legion Post 778 of Lyndora.Members of the Knights of Columbus will meet at the funeral home at 8 p.m. Sunday to recite the rosary. The Women's Council of St. Peter's will meet at the church at 9:35 a.m. Monday to recite the rosary.
