Mary Dambaugh

Mary Dambaugh

Mary Belle McFate Davis Dambaugh, 86, of Slippery Rock passed over to be with her Lord at the Susquehanna Valley Nursing Home in Columbia, Pa., on Thursday.

She was born in Slippery Rock on Feb. 17, 1929, to Ira Paul and Myrtle Belle Dimit McFate.

She graduated from Slippery Rock High School in 1947 and then attended Butler Business College.

Mary worked as an accountant for two insurance companies before she married Clarence Davis of Portersville on July 29, 1950, and then lovingly served her family as a homemaker and farmer's wife.

Mary was a dedicated member of the Zion Baptist Church in Worth Township for many years. She also provided leadership for the Worth Township WCTU and the Grange, the Slippery Rock American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 393 and the Slippery Rock Historical Society.

She enjoyed growing flowers, crocheting, watching hummingbirds and caring for animals. Most of all she was devoted to taking care of other people, which made the City Rescue Mission in New Castle one of her favorite charities.

Her surviving children are her daughter, Dorothy (Dottie) and her husband, Lee, Critchlow of Mt. Juliet, Tenn.; and her two sons, Calvin J. Davis and his wife, Laura, of Mount Joy, Pa., and Russell G. Davis and his wife, Susan, of Slippery Rock.

Nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren complete the family.

Her surviving siblings include Bernice McFate Balsbaugh of Harrisburg; Joella McFate Hogan of Florida; Robert McFate and his wife, Beverly, of Slippery Rock; and Paul (Jamie) McFate and his wife, Jean, in North Carolina.

Mary's parents, Ira and Myrtle Dimit McFate; her husband, Clarence Davis; and her sister, Ruth McFate Fort, preceded her in death.
