County annex move-in to start in early August
Butler County human services departments should be moving into the new county office building in the first or second week of August.
Chief clerk Amy Wilson said the $12 million project, which officially is called the government center annex, is on time and on budget.
The building, located on South Washington Street next to the government center, has four levels.
The top level will contain offices for Children and Youth Services. About 50 people will work on this level. It will contain much more private space for staff to meet with families.
The level below that will contain Mental Health, Intellectual Disabilities and Early Intervention, Drug and Alcohol and Community Action. About 30 people will work on this floor. This level is at the same level as the ground floor of the government center. The annex will be connected to the government center via a skywalk from this level. The skywalk can be accessed from the first floor of the government center.
The level below that will be empty for now. It will house machinery and will be a shell for future office space. The bottom level will be a parking garage for county personnel.
The Area Agency on Aging office will stay at the Sunnyview complex.
Wilson said that mental health, intellectual disabilities and early intervention will move in first, followed by CYS. Then other departments will move in.
The goal for the staggered move-in is to prevent interruption of services, Wilson said.
Currently, most human services offices are located on the second floor of the government center.
The Department of Community Corrections, which includes adult and juvenile probation, will move to the second floor of the government center. This will allow the adult probation office to move out of the city’s tier garage.
