Adams will hire parks director

Part-time post OK'd by board

ADAMS TWP — The large community park will have a director.

The township supervisors voted Monday to begin the process of hiring a part-time parks and recreation director.

Members of the township parks and recreation committee recommended to the supervisors several months ago the position be created.

Supervisor Russ Ford made the motion.

Parks and recreation committee member Dave Goodworth said while the supervisors will have the final say regarding the tasks involved with the job, he hoped working on ideas from the committee and researching the feasibility of community requests would be two main areas of focus for the new employee.

Goodworth said while spring and summer would be the new director’s busiest times, the supervisors would determine hours to be worked during the fall and winter.

He said the position is necessary because of the township’s growing population.

“A parks and recreation director would allow the township to offer a greater variety of programming from the youngest to the oldest residents,” Goodworth said.

The salary for the position has not yet been determined.

Adams Township Community Park has more than 103 acres containing a 1.3-mile walking trail, four pavilions available for rental, several sports fields, a war memorial, an authentic one-room schoolhouse and playground equipment.
