'Person of interest' in Erie homicide is arrested here

A parole violator who is a “person of interest” in a shocking homicide has returned to his home county with felony drug charges after being arrested in Butler County.

Erie County Police Chief Randy Bowers said Marquice Evans, 25, is not charged in the June 23 death of Sherry Lyons.

She was found in the basement of her Erie home having been beaten in the face. Her head was wrapped in duct tape, and she was left to suffocate.

However, police would like to talk to Evans because he is known to be involved with Teonia T. Kimbro, 18, of Erie, who is charged with homicide, conspiracy to commit homicide and other counts in Lyons’ death.

Kimbro is in the Erie County Prison without bond.

But Evans apparently left the Erie area and was arrested in Butler County Tuesday night by the U.S. Marshals Western Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force and the state police in Butler County.

State police spotted Evans in a vehicle driving on Herman Road in Summit Township about 5:15 p.m. They stopped the vehicle on Kriley Grove Lane just off Herman Road.

Evans was arrested on a warrant. Investigators then found Evans had crack cocaine, heroin and drug paraphernalia, according to court records.

His arrest is not related to the homicide, but rather for the drug charges, state parole violations and a criminal warrant for false ID to law enforcement.

The circumstances of why he was in Butler County were not immediately available. He stayed in the county prison until Wednesday, when he was taken back to Erie.
