Bob Evans pulls out of plaza plan
BUTLER TWP — The Butler Township Planning Commission on Tuesday approved revised plans for the Greenway Plaza shopping development on New Castle Road near Route 422, after one of the development’s major occupants pulled out.
Developers United Growth and land owner Jack Meyers said “market conditions” were behind the decision of Bob Evans restaurant to withdraw from the development.
Commissioners approved planned changes to the plaza’s subdivisions, which include a vacant parcel that Meyers would continue to own. The plaza still will have a Dick’s Sporting Goods, a Mattress Firm and a Starbucks.
The planning commissioners and township zoning officer Jesse Hines said they still had questions about traffic flow at the proposed main entrance as well as the location of the plaza’s trash enclosure. Those aspects of the plan had not changed.
Project engineers said those concerns would be looked into before construction started.
Currently contractors are doing grading work at the 5.8-acre site, a project engineer told the commission Tuesday night, but no building permit work has yet been done.
There was no immediate indication Tuesday of any construction time line.
