Betty Denny Lewis

Betty J. Lewis

Betty Denny Lewis, 95, of Butler passed away peacefully on May 24, her birthday.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Denny. Betty was a businesswoman all of her life. She graduated from Grove City College and was its oldest living alumna.

While she was raising her sons, she sold Radell cosmetics. She then earned her real estate license and eventually became the first female real estate broker in Western Pennsylvania. She ran Key Realty for over 15 years, then she and the family purchased the Burger Hut Restaurant on Main Street in Butler. Before long they expanded and opened Burger Hut II, and these restaurants became an icon for the Butler area.

She was active in the Butler Little Theatre, and was a member of the Butler Chamber of Commerce, the Pennsylvania Restaurant Association, Pennsylvania State and Butler County Realtor associations, the Butler Rotary Club, president of the Butler ROOTS foundation and a member of numerous women's clubs throughout Butler.

Mrs. Lewis loved to travel. She had been to Rome, Paris, Hong Kong, China, Russia and loved to entertain her family with stories of her adventures. She loved to plant and care for flowers. Her home was always a showcase during the summer, when she would entertain friends and family.

She was an avid sports fan. She was the first woman to golf at the all-men's Armco Country Club and was proud of her accomplishment of defeating two men at the Butler Country Club Championship. She was an officer of the Art Association and she was offered a scholarship to Julliard School of Music.

She is survived by her three sons, Edward and Tracy Denny, William and Kathy Denny, Mark and Patricia Denny; her grandchildren, Edward Denny, Sean and Kristie Denny, Danielle Denny Harris and Erik Harris, Mercedes and Mackenzie Denny; and great-grandchildren, Taylor, Grant, Alexis, Fitzroy, and a little girl on the way.

Our mom was a great woman. We could go on and on about her accomplishments. She has taught us so much through the years

We will love and miss her.
