Butler Twp PoliceFriday — Police charged Jesse M. Vereb, 19, of Saxonburg with felony drug possession and drugged driving stemming from a traffic stop at 2:48 a.m. June 9 on Vogel Road.Along with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, a felony, and driving under the influence of a controlled substance, Vereb is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.Police also cited Vereb for careless driving and disregarding traffic lanes.
State Police, Butler2:15 p.m. Sunday — Mechanical failure was blamed for a one-vehicle wreck on Interstate 79 in Jackson Township. The accident happened when the passenger side rear tire broke off its mounting bracket on a pickup truck driven by Glen J. Mittermeier Jr., 38, of Pittsburgh.The 2000 Chevrolet S-10 crossed both lanes and went off the east side of the road.3:32 p.m. Saturday — A Hilliards couple was hurt when a suspected drugged driver crashed into the back of their pickup that was stopped at a traffic light on Route 38 in Concord Township. Steven J. Stitt, 26, and his passenger, Maegan Stitt, 23, were treated at Butler Memorial Hospital for minor injuries. Both were wearing seat belts.An infant who was riding in the Stitts' truck, was not hurt. The child was in a safety seat.Robert T. Williams II, 31, of Eau Claire, who was driving the other vehicle, fled the crash but he was later found in his car stopped on the side of Route 308. Police said they subsequently arrested him for suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance.3:30 a.m. Saturday — Three Butler County men and a Mercer County woman were assaulted following a large party at the Grove Apartments on Harmony Road in Slippery Rock Township.Troopers were called to the apartment complex for a “large fight.” The alleged victims, who are between the ages of 21 and 23, told police they were assaulted by several black males. Police said they have no suspects.1:42 p.m. Friday — Josephine Witzel, 85, of Harrisville was hurt when she lost control of her car and sideswiped a utility pole before hitting a small tree and shrubbery along Long Road, just east of Valley View Road Extension in Marion Township. Witzel, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered unknown injuries.Thursday — An Apple iPad Air was stolen from the front porch of a home on Holyoke Road in Center Township. The theft happened between 10:57 a.m. and noon.7:45 a.m. Wednesday — A car driven by Owen V. Beringer, 20, of Cranberry Township rear-ended a pickup truck slowing down for a traffic light on Route 68 in Forward Township. Dennis E. Lynn Sr., 65, of Butler was driving the pickup.Wednesday — Police filed a misdemeanor drug charge against Zachary A. Atwell, 23, of Butler stemming from his suspected heroin overdose June 12 at a home on Staff Road in Brady Township.Police said after paramedics revived Atwell, he fled the scene. Troopers searched for two hours before spotting him. But again, he fled. Atwell is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
State Police, Clarion12:06 p.m. Sunday — A car driven by Dennis K. Dolan, 61, of Grove City struck a deer on Interstate 80 in Beaver Township.3 p.m. Saturday — A Parker woman faces drug and theft charges after she was caught allegedly shoplifting a bottle of lye at the Trader Horn store in Clarion Township.The suspect, 31-year-old Amanda D. Ashbaugh, was nabbed with the merchandise as well as methamphetamine, prescription pills and drug paraphernalia.
State Police, Kittanning9:40 p.m. Saturday — A 56-year-old Ford Cliff woman was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after a rollover wreck in East Franklin Township. The woman, who police did not identify, was speeding on Route 422 when she lost control of her car and crashed into an embankment, rolling onto its side.
11:30 a.m. Saturday — An unknown vandal drove his pickup truck through a woman's yard at her home at the Liberty Acres Trailer Park in Liberty Township, Mercer County. The man later got out of the truck and knocked on the victim's door.The 58-year-old woman told police that it appeared the man had been drinking. She locked her door and called 911.Saturday — An unknown thief stole a 70-year-old woman's purse from a vehicle parked in her unlocked garage on Springfield Church Road in Jackson Township, Mercer County.Friday — An elderly Sandy Lake Township woman was bilked out of $1,400 in a telephone scam.The 84-year-old woman told police that she got a call from someone claiming to be her grandson. The caller knew the woman's name and the name of her grandson that he was impersonating.The suspect told the woman that he was injured and in jail stemming from a car accident. The scammer told the victim he needed $1,400 to get out of jail and for treatment of his injuries. The caller at that point placed another person on the line who confirmed the false statements.The woman that afternoon used a Western Union wire to send the money to the suspect.Later that evening, according to a police report, the victim realized that she had been conned after contacting her real grandson.9:25 a.m. Thursday — Gary P. Polis, 39, of Renfrew lost control of his pickup and struck a guardrail after crossing the center line on Airport Road just west of Hurd Lane in Liberty Township, Mercer County. Police cited Polis for driving at an unsafe speed.12:30 p.m. Thursday — Heather Dame, 23, of Grove City was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on Sharon Mercer Road in East Lackawannock TownshipThursday — A black trailer was stolen from Lamb & Webster on Route 173 at Interstate 80 in Wolf Creek Township. The equipment store used the trailer to make deliveries. The theft happened between June 8 and Tuesday.10:20 p.m. Tuesday — Harry G. Kramer III, no age given, of Volant was arrested for suspicion of DUI on Route 208 at the Boot Box in Springfield Township.2:55 a.m. Tuesday — Michael Kowalczyk, no age given, of Seven Hills, Ohio, was arrested for suspicion of DUI after his car got stuck in a corn field on South Foster Road about a mile south of Route 62 in Jackson Township, Mercer County.11:30 p.m. June 14 — A car driven by Adam D. Holquist, 35, of Erie crashed in trees along rain-soaked I-80 in Wolf Creek Township. Police cited Holquist for disregarding traffic lanes and driving a vehicle without inspection.12:50 p.m. June 5 — A car driven by Max M. Herbert, 42, of Rochester, N.Y., struck a deer on Interstate 79 in Springfield Township. Herbert and four passengers, three of them children, were not injured but the car had to be towed away due to front-end damage.
4:55 p.m. Sunday — Bernard W. McCullough, 66, of Butler was hurt when the pickup truck he was driving crashed into a tree along Route 422 in Union Township. McCullough, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Jameson Hospital in New Castle with minor injuries.Police said McCullough was cited for driving at an unsafe speed, disregarding traffic lanes and driving with faulty tires.Thursday — An unknown thief stole two lawn mowers in a burglary at home in the 3900 block of New Butler Road in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County. The theft happened between June 11 and Tuesday.The stolen items are described as a green Craftsman 17-horsepower riding mower valued at $800 and a Craftsman 5-horsepower push mower valued at $100.A police report noted that a wooden door frame was damaged in the break-in.
