State police say father has admitted anger issues

BRADY TWP — The father accused of a disturbing case of child abuse admitted to investigators that he has “anger issues” and “fits of rage,” state police said.

Justin M. Craig, 23, recounted one instance earlier this month when he grabbed his 12-week-old son around the knee and forced the infant’s leg back, according to court documents.

The assault broke the child’s leg.

But that was only one of numerous bone fractures the infant suffered allegedly at the hands of his biological father.

Troopers on Friday arrested Craig of Brady Township, just hours after he took his 12-week-old son to Butler Memorial Hospital with a number of injuries.

He is in the Butler County Prison on $250,000 bail on felony and other charges.

Authorities said the hospital medical staff considered the infant’s injuries so significant that he was later moved to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh.

One of the treating physicians told police that the child had a broken right upper arm, broken right thigh bone, broken right lower leg near the knee, broken left thigh bone near the knee, a broken shoulder and three broken ribs.

Additionally, documents said, the child had a right eye hemorrhage.

The physician told investigators that the injuries were “in various states of healing” and appeared to have occurred over a period time of time, dating back to around early March.

Trooper Max Deluca, who interviewed Craig at the police barracks, said in documents that Craig acknowledged his anger problem, and admitted that when he flies into fits of rage “he has trouble remembering what he does.”

A preliminary hearing is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday.
