$1.1 million lottery ticket sold in Ross

ROSS TWP, Allegheny County — A North Hills retailer sold the jackpot-winning Match 6 Lotto ticket worth more than $1 million from the Monday drawing, creating the Pennsylvania Lottery’s fourth new millionaire in four days.

The ticket matched all six winning numbers, 05-14-21-31-43-46, to win a jackpot of $1.1 million, less 25 percent federal withholding.

The retailer, Cash & Carry at 1021 Perry Highway, earns a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

The identity of the jackpot winner cannot be confirmed until the prize is claimed and the ticket is validated. Match 6 winners have one year from the drawing date to claim prizes.

Organ group puts UPMC on probation

PITTSBURGH — The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center’s lung transplant program has been put on probation by the United Network for Organ Sharing, a nonprofit that oversees American transplants.

The group says UPMC too frequently took lungs intended for one patient and gave them to another after the first intended transplant patient was determined to not be suitable or able to receive it.

UNOS says the 14 times that occurred in 2013 and 2014 was “unusually high” and calls into question whether the lungs might have gone to needier patients.

UPMC can still conduct lung transplants but must notify patients of the probation.

Senate committee to review nominee

CARLISLE — Gov. Tom Wolf’s choice to lead the State Police will go before skeptical Republican senators who, like the troopers’ union, have asked the Democratic governor to withdraw Col. Marcus Brown as his nominee.

Brown’s Wednesday hearing before the Senate Law and Justice Committee is a step toward determining whether he’ll serve as the full, permanent commissioner, or whether he can only serve in an acting capacity.

Wolf has refused to withdraw his nomination.
