Police search for hit-and-run driver
BUTLER TWP — Police are searching for the driver whose vehicle hit a woman crossing New Castle Road Sunday night.
According Lt. Matthew Pearson of the township police, Roberta Prementine, 42, of Butler was walking across the road in front of the Sheetz convenience store about 10:50 p.m. when she was hit in the east bound turn lane. She reportedly was struck by a sport utility vehicle that was either white or gray.
Witnesses described the driver as a white man, between 60 and 70 years. The vehicle was last seen making a turn onto Hindman Road.
Although the SUV driver did not stop, a motorist in another vehicle stopped and provided assistance to Prementine until an ambulance arrived. She was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital, then flown by helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital.
Although her condition was not immediately known, her injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
“We are still actively investigating,” Pearson said.
