Bike repair stations installed
CRANBERRY TWP — Bicyclists who encounter a flat tire or slipped bike chain in either North Boundary or Graham parks now have help in the form of self-service bike repair stations.
Community planner Joe Shafer said Wednesday that each station cost about $2,000 which was paid for by grants.
Those grants also paid for several bike racks that were installed in locations around the township, and money left over from those projects funded the self-service stations.
The bike repair stations are installed and include all of the tools and materials needed to do basic bicycle repairs and maintenance.
They are under protective covering to keep them safe and ready for use year-round.
The bike racks are free to use by anyone.
“It’s definitely something very unique to the township,” Shafer said. “It’s the first improvement of its kind in the township, and we feel (the racks) are a great compliment to the parks. It’s another step to make Cranberry Township more bike-friendly.”
The grant, which came from the Alcoa Foundation, was for $20,000 while the Butler County Tourism and Convention Bureau gave $1,500.
