You can still sign up for some programs
The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department has had good response to some of its new programs, while it is still accepting registrations for others.
The department added five new programs for this spring that are being run by Jump Start Sports.
Most of the programs are serving as an alternate or complement to more serious youth leagues, said program director Ashley Helmstaedter.
“It seems to be a great price for people who can’t afford the leagues or cleats and other stuff that is required,” Helmstaedter said.
Introductory lacrosse, for boys and girls ages 7 to 12, doesn’t have many children signed up though it met the company’s minimum of 10. It started April 30 and meets on Thursdays through June 4 at the Alameda Park on West New Castle Road.
Hummingbird Soccer, for ages 3 to 6, teaches the basics of soccer and takes place on Wednesdays through June 17 at Butler County Community College.
The department is still accepting registrations for T-ball, which will be on Saturdays from this Saturday to June 27 at the park. T-ball is open to ages 3 to 5.
Flag football for ages 5 to 10 runs Tuesdays from June 16 to July 21. There are already about 35 children signed up for that program and participation will likely be capped at 50.
There also will be an Olympic Multi-Sports Camp from June 22-26 at the park that is still open to registration.
Based on participation, the department will likely bring the camps back next summer and may look at adding basketball or other programs too, Helmstaedter said.
