Spring Gas-Up returns this weekendPORTERSVILLE — The Portersville Steam Show will hold its annual Spring Gas-Up this Saturday and Sunday.The show will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the steam show grounds, 1512 Perry Highway, Portersville.Attractions and demonstrations will include train rides, gas and steam engines, antique cars, saw milling, equipment parades and food.The steam show holds three event every year: a Spring Gas-Up, a Summer Show at the end of July and a Fall Fling in October.For information, visit portersvillesteamshow.org.
Grove City College commencement setGROVE CITY — Grove City College will hold commencement ceremonies this weekend.A baccalaureate service is scheduled at 7 p.m. Friday on the quad. Commencement will be 10 a.m. Saturday also on the quad.Tickets are required for both events. However, commencement will be simulcast in Harbison Chapel and Crawford Auditorium.In the event of rain, the ceremonies will be moved to the College Arena in the Physical Learning Center.Former U.S. Rep. Frank Wolf will speak at commencement and will also be awarded an honorary doctor of laws degree.The Rev. Alistair Begg, senior minister of Parkside Church near Cleveland, Ohio, will speak at the baccalaureate service and will also be awarded with an honorary doctor of divinity degree.
Volunteers sought to help landscapeBRADY TWP — The Moraine, McConnells Mill and Jennings Commission is seeking volunteers to help with spring landscaping work at Jennings Environmental Education Center.Volunteers will gather at 9 a.m. and work until noon Saturday. They will meet in the parking lot on the prairie side of the park.Participants are to take gloves and water; tools will be supplied. No registration is necessary.
Summer programs slated at JenningsBRADY TWP — Jennings Environmental Education Center will host several “DiscoverE Summer Programs.”“Hide-N-Seekers,” for children ages 4 to 5, will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. or 1:30 to 3 p.m. on three Tuesdays: June 16, 23 and 30.“Outdoor Explorers,” for those ages 6 to 8, will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. or 1 to 3 p.m. on three Thursdays: June 18, 25 and July 2.“Penn’s Adventures,” for participants ages 9 to 12, will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on three Wednesdays: July 22, 29 and Aug. 5.Registration and payment is required.
