10,000 pounds of food collected

Food placed in Butler area mailboxes Saturday went to the National Association of Letter Carriers 23rd annual drive.

Canned goods and nonperishables were placed in mailboxes and picked up by postal workers. Items also could be brought to the office on Main Street.

An estimated 10,000 pounds of food was collected, according to Susan Hoover, who was in charge of the drive. She is a Butler postal city carrier.

“We collected 16 pallets of canned goods and nonperishables,” she said.

Hoover said some items may still be added to the pile since some donations are accidentally missed or forgotten.

She said a van will collect the goods Wednesday to take them to the Butler Community Action center, where food banks are to collect it.

Residents can still make their donations until that time.
