Women face theft charges

Duo broke into cars

BUTLER TWP — Two Butler women are jailed on charges they broke into and ransacked several vehicles in the township in April and May.

Tanni K. Milligan, 23, and Sara L. McCollums, 18, allegedly stole items including purses, cell phone accessories, a global positioning system device and a high school class ring.

The property was taken between April 11 and May 5 from unlocked vehicles in the area of the Butler Commons and other township shopping centers.

Butler Township police on Friday arrested Milligan and McCollums riding together in a car that contained some of the stolen items in the back seat, according to court documents.

District Judge Lewis Stoughton arraigned the defendants on multiple counts of theft from a vehicle, conspiracy, disorderly conduct and other charges. They are in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail each.

Police accused the suspects of breaking into a sport utility vehicle at the Holiday Inn Express parking lot on North Duffy Road on April 11 and taking a purse and three bottles of perfume.

The pair on May 5 allegedly broke into a car at the Regal Cinema parking lot at Moraine Pointe Plaza and swiped a Tom Tom GPS, two Gameboy games and a backpack that contained a class ring.

That same night, authorities said, the women broke into a car and pickup truck at a Seneca Drive home, stealing a baby’s outfit and toy as well as a bag of party items that were purchased to celebrate a young child’s birthday, court documents said.

The party items were still in their original packaging. Police believe Milligan later returned the items to the Party City store in Cranberry Township for a $72 fraudulent return.

Police suspect the defendants on May 7 broke into another car at the Belmont II parking lot in the Bon Aire Plaza and took a purse, two cell phone chargers and prescription medication.

Milligan and McCollums both admitted to ransacking vehicles in the township, police said.
