Hearing set today on Highmark plan

HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania’s top insurance regulator plans to hold a hearing on Highmark’s plan to pump millions of dollars into a subsidiary.

Acting state Insurance Commissioner Teresa Miller is scheduled to hold the hearing on Highmark’s request today in Harrisburg.

The health insurer proposes to transfer $175 million in grants to its seven-hospital Allegheny Health Network to make capital improvements and improve cash flow.

The hearing comes amid continuing disputes between Highmark and rival University of Pittsburgh Medical Center over issues that were supposed to have been resolved by a consent decree.

Intuit plans Super Bowl ad contest

NEW YORK — Intuit is looking to draft another small business for some air time in football’s biggest game.

The maker of QuickBooks accounting software is planning its second competition in which small companies vie for a 30-second spot in Super Bowl 50 on Feb. 7. The winner will get the kind of exposure that big brands like Budweiser, Chevrolet and Microsoft pay millions to get.

The contest begins June 1 with companies submitting stories about their businesses and why they should be showcased during the most widely viewed television event of the year. The submissions are then voted on by the public and Intuit employees.
