Lois Jean Rugg
Lois Jean Rugg, 76, of Butler went to be with her Lord and Savior after a courageous battle with cancer at 2:20 p.m. Friday at the Good Samaritan Hospice Unit in Cabot.
She was born Sept. 28, 1938, in Lower Turkeyfoot Township, Somerset County, the daughter of the late Wesley I. and Florence (Steyer) Herman.
Jean was a longtime member of the Butler Church of the Nazarene. She was a graduate of Turkeyfoot Valley High School and the Pittsburgh Business School.
Jean had worked in the Department of Defense of the Pentagon, cleaned houses and was a teller at Mellon Bank and retired from Butler County Community College as a secretary in the nursing department. While at BC3, she attended classes and continued her education at LaRoche College to earn her master's degree.
After her retirement from BC3, she worked at Ed Shields Realty and also as a notary.
Jean's love for her Lord and Savior, for travel, helping others and learning took her to many places all over the world with the Work and Witness Team from her church doing missionary work, and also with her friends and family. She was a member of the Cherry Valley VFW ladies auxiliary, was a Penn State master gardener and a Stephen ministries leader.
Surviving are her daughter, Lori Rugg (Robert Philpot) of Butler; her son, Barry Rugg (Carla Campbell) of Petrolia; four grandchildren, Kristen Rugg (Ryan Todd), Kelly Rugg (Clay Kohlmeyer), and Caleb and Merritt Rugg; and four great-grandchildren, Chason, Bella, Mason and Ty.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Edward Rugg, who died Nov. 11, 1977.
RUGG — Services for Lois Jean Rugg, who died Friday, March 27, 2015, will be at the Butler Church of the Nazarene, 4410 Oakdale Road, Butler, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday with her pastor officiating.
