Commission sets events to promote fishing

HARRISBURG — The state Fish and Boat Commission has announced several events intended to promote fishing and fishing education for families.

On June 20, the commission will hold a family fishing festival at Moraine State Park.

The event will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will be held at the Pleasant Valley Day Use Area on Pleasant Valley Road.

Family Fishing Festivals are a convenient way to introduce people to the sport of fishing at no cost, said Carl Richardson, commission education section manager, in a news release.

It is an educational event designed for families with little or no fishing experience. Participants will learn basic fishing skills and have an opportunity to practice those skills while fishing during the program.

The festival is open to adults and children ages 5 and older.

Also, May 24 and July 4 will be statewide Fish-For-Free Days.

For both the fishing festival and the Fish-For-Free Days, the state waives all license requirements for participants ages 16 and older.

Visit www.gonefishingpa.com to register or learn more about these programs. Space is limited, and there will be no registrations accepted the day of the festival.
