McCune oversees discipline
HARRISBURG — Butler County Judge Timothy F. McCune has been elected president judge of the Court of Judicial Discipline of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
McCune initially was appointed to the eight-member court by Gov. Tom Corbett on Sept. 23, 2011.
“We have had some big cases since then,” McCune said.
The Court of Judicial Discipline has jurisdiction over all judicial officers in Pennsylvania and must hear and decide formal charges which are filed against a judicial officer including all magisterial district judges; judges of the Court of Common Pleas, the Commonwealth and Superior courts; and justices of the Supreme Court.
The Court of Judicial Discipline has the authority to impose sanctions, from a reprimand to removal from office, if the formal charges are sustained.
McCune said there are about 10 pending cases before the court, many of which are related to the Philadelphia traffic court.
Since January 2006, McCune has served in the county Court of Common Pleas. Before then he was the county district attorney from 1996 to 2005.
McCune, who became the judicial board’s president in February, will finish out his four-year term at the end of August.
