Shots fired at party at Monroeville Mall

Reports ID'd SRU organizers

MONROEVILLE — Police say shots were fired and two people were hurt at a party involving hundreds of college students at a Pittsburgh-area mall that’s had several violent episodes in recent months.

Monroeville Police Chief Doug Cole says neither shot hit anyone early Saturday outside Winghart’s Whiskey & Burger Bar at the Monroeville Mall.

The business, on its Facebook page, said:

“We were 100 percent misled and are greatly upset at what was supposed to be an Alumni Slippery Rock event. As soon as we realized the supposed private event was marketed else where, we shut the party down immediately.”

Other reports identified the organizers as the Phi Eta Sigma fraternity at Slippery Rock University.

A spokesman for SRU contacted this morning said he was looking into the events at the mall, but was unavailable when contacted later.

A 25-year-old man was listed in fair condition with an unspecified injury. A 19-year-old woman suffered an unspecified emergency.

Police say students from area universities were bused to the mall for a fraternity event promoted on social media as (hash) AllWhiteAffair2015, because it required attendees to wear white.

It was moved to Monroeville because another venue was double-booked.

The mall increased security recently after hundreds of fighting teens forced it to close in December and three people were shot there in February.
