HARRISBURG — A Pennsylvania state representative is quitting the Legislature and says he wants to resume his long career in law enforcement.

Republican Rep. Joe Hackett announced on Thursday that he will be leaving his Delaware County seat at the end of April.

Hackett says his decision was prompted by “recent episodes and situations that have placed a strain on the relationship between police and citizens. He says he’s considering his options.

His 26-year police career has included time as a Ridley Township corporal and a detective in the county district attorney’s office.
