PHILADELPHIA — Three Butler Eagle staff writers are among those honored in the annual the Pennsylvania Associated Press Managing Editors annual writing and photography contests.
In the 15,000 to 30,000 circulation daily newspaper category in the statewide contest, Eric Freehling won second place in feature writing for his story: “Beatlemania, 1964 British Invasion had profound impact on many.”
Sports writer Josh Rizzo placed second in deadline sports reporting for his story: “Flawless, Moniteau uses dirty uniforms to complete clean, unbeaten run to D-9 softball crown.”
In spot news reporting, staff writer Jim Smith placed second for his story: “2 killed on Route 68.”Awards will be presented atthe Pennsylvania Press Conference in Gettysburg May 29.
CABOT — Judy McKain Connelly of Butler recently was named the executive director of Concordia's Good Samaritan Hospice.In September, Connelly came to Concordia after serving as the director of VNA Hospice & Palliative Care since 1995. In addition, she was director of patient care services for two years at Butler's VNA.Since 1979, she has held positions in the health care field in Butler County including the VA Medical Center and Butler Memorial Hospital where she began her nursing career.She is a member of the executive board of directors of the Pennsylvania Hospice Network and the Community Health Clinic of Butler County.In 2013, she was selected the Butler County Employee of the Year.Connelly, who has three children, replaces Anzie Kelley of Butler, who retired and is a consultant.Connelly is an alumna of the University of Pittsburgh and Boston College.
