The Slippery Rock University Student Exhibition opens April 9 at The Art Center.
A reception from 6 to 9 p.m. April 13 will showcase the art seminar class exhibit, “Efflorescence.”
The exhibit will continue through April 15.
Upper-level art majors enrolled in art seminar, a professional practices course, at SRU will present a selection of their artwork.
During the process, each student participates on a committee for preparation such as graphic design, public relations, photography, art installation, budgeting and writing. The students are learning how to take on professional roles and gain some insight into the reality of exhibiting artwork.
“Efflorescence” describes the growth process of how students have developed their artwork and matured as artists over the course of their studies.
Each student creates an artwork that is finished and ready for presentation. This may include framing two-dimensional work, securing pedestals for large three-dimensional artworks, or printing photographs or digital media.
Students then document with photographs their work before it leaves the studio and learn how to package and transport their artworks, install an exhibit, and promote the show.
Admission is free. The Art Center is open noon to 6 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays and noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays. For more information, call 724-283-6922 or visit butlerartcenter.org.
