SRU honors military
SLIPPERY ROCK — Past and present military veterans will be honored guests April 12 for Slippery Rock University’s baseball doubleheader with Bloomsburg at Critchfield Park.
The Rock will wear specially-designed camouflage jerseys in honor of former SRU student Albert Gettings, who joined the U.S. Marines and was killed in combat in Iraq in 2006.
A free tailgate party for all veterans will be held at noon in an area adjacent to the ballpark. The first game begins at 1 p.m.
Donations will be taken during the first game to benefit the Lawrence County Veterans Make a Difference Center, in honor of Gettings and veterans of all branches of the military, living and deceased.
