George J. Senka

George Senka

George J. Senka, 74, of Cranberry Township passed away Saturday morning peacefully at his home after a long struggle with cancer.

Born on March 3, 1940, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late George and Josephine Wandzora Senka.

George graduated from Penn State, McKeesport, and for many years worked as a self-employed draftsman/machine designer in the steel industry in the Pittsburgh area. He was a member of the Meyersdale Elks Club.

George inspired us all by his example to value loyalty, friendship and an adventurous spirit he found in being an avid outdoorsman and traveler. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and snowmobiling, especially near their home in Laurel Falls, Somerset County.

His greatest passion was traveling with his wife, Janet. They traveled extensively all over the world, to such places as Antarctica, Africa, Europe, South America, Australia, and to all 50 states and many Canadian Provinces. From state parks to seashores, he enjoyed traveling in their Airstream trailer. In fact, this last trailer was number six! For him there was always one more place to see!

Surviving is his beloved wife, Janet Closshey Senka, who he married on June 7, 1980. He was the loving father of Kenneth G. Senka and his wife, Sandee, of West Mifflin and Thomas P. Senka and his wife, Kim, of Cranberry Township; stepfather of Robert E. Simpson Jr. of Baden; adoring grandfather of Andrew, Ryan, Alyssa and Reese Senka, and cherished brother of JoAnn Senka-Szott and her husband, Marty, of Bradenton, Fla.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Shelly Ann Senka.
