In loving memory of my dad, Walter H. “Shorty” Streitman Hoover.

Today is his birthday.

He was born on Tuesday, February 28, 1927.

That was so long ago that commemorating his birthday has the effect of making him seem, to many, to be just another old man from a time gone by.

But he was a very real and wonderful person - he was the baby of parents who loved him, then a child, then a man.

He was a brother to some, a co-worker to many and a friend and husband and companion to the woman who was first his girlfriend, then his sweetheart, then his wife. And he was my father and my teacher and my friend.

Though you may not have known him, please take a moment to think of him, as I do often.
